About Emily

I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in private practice since 2008. I am psychodynamic in my approach and I work experientially; focusing on the experience of the client in the moment. As we get close to painful topics, anxiety can creep in that feels like tightness in the body.  As old wounds get touched and awakened, sadness, confusion and anger can arise. I help clients gently track these changes in the body. In a culture that privileges doing over feeling, it is healing to have another stay with us in our confusion, pain, and joy.

I earned my Masters in Social Work from Boston College in 2000. Before starting my private practice, I worked with adolescents, adults, and families in schools, hospitals, and social services agencies. I have also provided training and supervision to mental health professionals and therapists throughout my career.

I incorporate aspects and techniques from the following theories and therapeutic modalities:

  • Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)

  • Inner Child/Relationship Recovery Program (RRP)

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Cohesion Therapy

  • Focusing

  • Attachment Theory

  • Therapeutic Group Consultation

  • Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Some therapists and writers that I have learned from and am inspired by are:

  • Tori Olds, PhD

  • Eugene Genglin, PhD

  • Amanda Curtin, LICSW

  • Patrick Teaghan, LICSW
